Nice to see Luke Priest's score when you consider all he has been through over the past few years.

Heat 02: Johnson trying new kit and its working

Heat 03: Smart packed up as he went over the line.

Heat 04: Bates excluded on 2 min, Andrews replaces him, then Andrews got excluded for 2 mins and was put back 15 metres, Newman fell and got excluded when Herne and Priest bunched into him.

Heat 06: Bates replaces Andrews.
Mason tried everything but couldnt get by.

Heat 08: Priest goes off 15metres as a TS
Cottham produces his turbo boost ride.

Heat 09: Top quality race between the front 2 wheel to wheel for the whole heat.

Heat 10: Mason went from 4th to 2nd easily.

Heat 11: Hughes on a TR.

Heat 12: Smart team rode Newman round.

We left the Barn Owl as soon after 5pm as possible to get to Weymouth in time for the 7:15 pm start. We took the main road but got stuck in a long queue trying to enter Weymouth. We arrived at the ground at 7:00 pm and were greeted by a Car Park attendant who said "There are more of you than us" as we payed our one pound charge.

The family ticket at Weymouth is a pound cheaper than paying for two adults and one child - have a think about FAMILY pricing Allen - and we were soon ordering and tucking into our food, after a quick trip into the football ground to use the toilets.

Slightly undercooked chips and processed cheese got the vote of worst meal of the year although my burger was nicely fat free and the bread was fresh. We are slightly worried about Craig, however, as he went back for a second helping.

We checked the program. This was conference league level so that means more scribbles than usual. Out went Rob Smith, in came Terry Day. Out went Andrew Aldridge, in came Tim Webster. Out went Darcy Ward, in came Richard Andrews. We had four unchanged riders in Kyle Hughes, Garry Cotham, Luke Priest and Matt Bates.

The 2008 Exeter Falcons were all set for battle!

It was a great start as Kyle Hughes led from the front. There seems to be a good future in the sport for this young man. He won heat 1 for us but Garry Cotham tailed off and finished last. A couple of Weymouth riders filled the minor placings.

We got some idea about the match from heat 2 as the Weymouth reserves beat our lads 5-1. HOLD ON - Kyle Newman is a conference league reserve - is this the same Kyle Newman that scored 6 Premier League points against Mildenhall while riding for Somerset? HE finished second. Let me go and find that program.

O.K. - Psychological battle completely won - THEY have got a Premier League 6 point scorer riding at reserve - The rest of the team must be superstars!

Heat three - 5-1 to Weymouth - Case Proven!

Terry Day rode well for his one point but he could not catch the opposition on this track.

Match score 13-5.

In heat 4 we had some luck as Kyle Newman (6 premier league points) crashed out on the first bend and was excluded. Then we had some bad organisation as Matt Bates was switched for Richard Andrews with the two minutes running. He should have been switched AFTER the two minutes had run. Richard missed the two minutes as he only had 20 seconds to prepare and had to go off 15 metres. High to Low - poor management.

When the race got underway Jay Herne led Luke Priest and Richard Andrews home for a 3-3. A chance missed.

Match score 16-8.

Heat 5 was a great race.

Kyle Hughes got out of the gate and led as we have already come to expect of him. He was, however, up against Lee Smart who followed him closely and kept badgering him.

Garry Cotham got into third place and all was looking very good for a 4-2 to Exeter. Matt Wright passed Garry on the second bend but Garry was having none of that and came back past to regain third place. Almost immediately, while we were focussed on that, Lee Smart came round the outside of turn four to take Kyle Hughes on the home straight with a lap to go.

Kyle could not answer that but gave everything trying to regain the lead. Smart got the verdict from Hughes with Cottham third. 3-3.

Heat 6 saw Matt Bates come in for Richard Andrews. This race was standard speedway as Andrew Bargh led Luke Priest home and Karl Mason led Matt Bates home. Exeter's long standing son came in for a bit of criticism after this one. 4-2


Heat 7 was dominated by Weymouth as Jay Herne and Brendan Johnson won from Terry Day who once again tried hard but could only gain a point. 5-1

HEAT 8

This was the heat of the night for us in so many ways and it typefied the type of racing that we were watching. Conference League.

Karl Mason and Kyle Newman came out of the gate fast followed by Luke Priest who was on a Tactical Substitution ride off 15 metres.
What shocked us all was that Garry Cottham was away and motoring in the same way that Seemond Stephens used to race whenever he got out of the gate first.

Garry "Seemond Stephens" Cottham was charging and uncatchable,
Mason and Newman filled the minor placings and Luke Priest in the black and white helmet was at the back. Lap two and all seemed settled.

Priest was making a charge as Karl Mason suffered engine failure so he came through to score at least something. Kyle Newman fell in front of Priest allowing him through into second place but this was the last lap and Cottham was well ahead. As Seemond, I mean Cottham, entered bend 4 lap 4 he looked back, saw Priest and was obviously shocked but he could not slow down in time to let the black and white helmet past.

Cottham WON easily (his moment in the limelight) and Priest came through the line in second for 4 points. Kyle Newman remounted to get the third place.

1-7 A good score taking the match score to 29-21.

Heat 9

That luck in heat 8 must have inspired Luke as he came out and won heat 9. I think we may be able to call a place for this young man in the new Exeter Falcons squad. Weymouth filled the minor placings. 3-3.

Heat 10

Andrew Bargh led heat 10 closely followed by Terry Day giving his all for the Falcons. Unfortunately home track advantage told for Karl Mason as he passed Terry on the way to another home 5-1.

Match score now 37-25.

Heat 11

Kyle Hughes came into this one in the black and white helmet.
Jay Herne won the heat but Kyle did all he could to gain the lead, eventually guaranteeing second place. 4-4. Match score 41-29.

The match was really beyond doubt now and confidence is such a key in young lads. They could not have had any confidence.

Heat 12

5-1 to Weymouth. Terry Day scored us a point. Well done son!

Heat 13

5-1 to Weymouth. Kyle Hughes fell but remounted and kept chasing and it is good that he did because Luke Priest suffered engine failure allowing Kyle through for a point.

Heat 14

5-1 to Weymouth. Matt Wright took the lead but he had a huge wobble allowing Brendan Johnson to take the heat. Sadly the falcons were nowhere near enough to take advantage of that wobble and Tim Webster held third for the point.

Heat 15

Kyle Hughes and Luke Priest for the Falcons.
Andrew Bargh won the heat from Kyle Hughes and Karl Mason beat Luke Priest for the remaining point. 4-2

FINAL SCORE: 60-34

TRULY THIS WAS LIKE WATCHING THE EXETER FALCONS AWAY.
