Thursday 30 October marks ten years since Colin left us . He gave us speedway for twenty years and made a lot of friends. Colin enjoyed life to the full and he and I had a lot of fun together as we travelled the length and breadth of the country. Indeed I have never had as much fun as we had with the whole team in 1985. Success was in short supply in those early years but eventually we won the Young Shield. That was 17 years ago tonight and we celebrated with late night kebabs in Sidwell Street. Indeed a great deal of steak and chocolate gateaux was consumed in his company over the years. That Young Shield victory was very special for Colin, and he always placed it above the 2000 Premier League Championship.
I still believe that had Colin lived he would have overcome the difficulties at Westpoint. He knew people and always reckoned it was a done deal. There are reasons why Westpoint didn't happen but this is not the right time or place to talk about that. I am just proud that Colin was my friend. Proper job!

All Falcons fans will agree, I'm sure, that without dear old Colin we would not have had speedway at the County Ground for as long as we did. Happy memories indeed. Long may he continue to RIP.
