A catch up on a few meetings this month.
On 5 October, Leicester Lion Cubs staged a double-header.
Firstly, they beat Cradley Heathens 64 - 26 in the 2nd leg of the NL Play-Off Semi-Final, winning easily on aggregate. James Chattin scored 2 from four rides for Heathens as a guest at reserve.
The second meeting was the 2nd leg of the NL KO Cup Semi-Final against Stoke Potters, and again the Cubs ran out easy winners on the night, by 59 -31, and on aggregate. Connor Coles scored 9 + 1 from five rides for Potters. It was the final meeting for the Potters, who have lost their home at Loomer Road to development.
On 20 October the NL Riders Championship was held at Scunthorpe. Connor Coles represented Stoke and, in a meeting curtailed by rain to three rides each, he managed a single point.

The final meeting of 2019 took place at the Coliseum in Plymouth on Thursday night.
Eight riders contested the Colin Hill Memorial Trophy, including Ben Barker and Richard Lawson, along with Henry Atkins, Richard Andrews,Ben Morley, Ellis Perks, Kyle Newman and Jason Edwards.
Each rider had four rides, and Lawson was immaculate with a 12 point maximum. He was joined in the Grand Final by Perks, Barker and Morley, and Lawson duly won. It was scheduled for 6 laps but somehow it ran over 7 laps.
Lawson posted the fastest heat time at 49.06 seconds, less than a second outside Craig Cook's all-time record.
Richard Andrews scored 2 points and Henry Atkins failed to trouble the scorer.

Nathan Stoneman, Richard Andrews and James Chattin all took part in the F.A.S.T. Golden Hammer individual meeting held at Cradley ( well, Monmore Green ) tonight.
Max Clegg won the Final, in which Nathan sadly fell and was excluded.
Nathan had been second-highest scorer in the heats with 10 points, Richard scoring 4 and James 3.

In their first meeting of the 2021 Season for the Eastbourne Gulls NL side, both Henry Atkins and Richard Andrews suffered mixed fortunes in a 43 - 47 defeat at Leicester Lion Cubs.
Henry began with two wins but pulled up in his third outing with what transpired to be a dislocated shoulder.
Richard found it difficult initially, with a couple of falls, but then managed a couple of second places to finish on 4 + 1.
No news as yet as to how long Henry will be out of action.

Sad news Squibby it looks like Henry will be out all season needs a operation on the shoulder and the rest of the year to recover and all this after missing most of last year due to Covid.
Also looks like Somerset is now lost to the sport these are both tragic events.

Yes Russ - both very bad news.
Henry will be a big loss to the Gladiators, especially at home where I personally think he would have beaten quite a few much more experienced riders.
As for the demise of Somerset, it was on the cards as soon as they announced the sale of the Oak Tree leisure facility. Nevertheless, yet another track in the South of the country goes. Not many left now on or south of the M4.

With the loss of Henry Atkins for the rest of this season, it seems hardly worthwhile now to continue with this thread, and so I will not be posting anything here from now on. It's been fun and I hope of at least some little interest.

It's a shame you feel like that Squibby but with the demise of Speedway in the West Country there is not much chance of us seeing live matches, Speedway was struggling pre Covid but i fear the pandemic could kill it off altogether and as i have no TV i have only Youtube or DVD'S for my Speedway fix.
