A 56 - 34 success for Devils tonight at home to a NL Select side. This meeting replaced the previously scheduled meeting with Kings Lynn Starlets who have, of course, withdrawn from the NL.
Henry Atkins top-scored with 16 + 1, and Richard Andrews weighed in with a useful 8 + 1. Another score worthy of note was 14 from Adam Roynon. I don't know if he was just a guest. There was no Lee Smart tonight, so I'm wondering - is Roynon replacing Smart in the Devils line-up permanently ?? ***
The Select side included Connor Coles, but he managed only 3 points. Matt Bates was included in the Select team and scored 8.
*** YES !

The Devils go down 35 - 54 at Mildenhall today in their NL encounter.
Henry Atkins scored 3 in his new position as a second string, and Richard Andrews managed just a single point.
Connor Coles scored a single point also as Newcastle defeated Sheffield Tigers 48 - 42 in the Championship today.

A well-earned two points for the Eastbourne Eagles, who battled to a 45 - 45 draw at Birmingham tonight. A solid 5 + 3 for Matt Bates. However, Eagles will be disappointed they didn't get a maximum 4 points for an away win, the Brummies striking back late on to get the draw, apparently. Well done Matt.

A maiden NL victory for Devils at home to Stoke Potters this evening, by 52 - 38.
Richard Andrews scored 5 + 1 ( including a pointless outing where he fell while challenging to pass an opponent, remounting to finish the race ). Henry Atkins contributed 4 + 1, which also included a pointless ride due to a fall which saw him bounce off the air fence unscathed. His final ride saw him make a good pass to secure second spot.
Faultless 15 max from Roynon and 13 + 2 paid max from Boxall.
Three league points on the board at last for the Devils.

Well, it was supposed to be the long-awaited return of Tyler Govier to the Isle of Wight Warriors line-up tonight, but he didn't ride. No idea why as yet. He posted on Facebook earlier that he was back !!??
The Warriors went down 37 - 53 at home to Birmingham Brummies. On his debut for the Warriors, Connor Coles posted a respectable 11 from 5 rides, including two heat wins, both over Brummies top scorer Liam Carr.

It appears that Tyler Govier did not ride because he was " withholding his services because of a contractual issue ".
( with thanks to Island Speedway Facebook page ).

Sadly, but rather predictably I'm afraid, Connor Coles has been released by Newcastle Diamonds, and so will now concentrate on riding for the Isle of Wight in the NL.

A busy Saturday of NL speedway saw Matt Bates score just two points in Eastbourne's 53 - 37 home win over Belle Vue Colts. A couple of third places, a retirement and a fell/excluded made up a frustrating meeting for him.
Plymouth succumbed 35 - 55 away at the tricky Lakeside track. The Devils used R/R for Boxall ( not sure why at present ), which didn't help their cause at all. Presumably a very late withdrawal by Boxall as no guest. Richard Andrews scored 6 + 2 from five rides, and Henry Atkins 6 from six.
On Friday at the OTA, the Falcons took on Kent after Somerset's home reverse to Kings Lynn. The Kent side included two riders from their regular NL side, namely Bradley Andrews and Anders Rowe, so the two teams were hardly well balanced experience-wise. Falcons succumbed 11 - 25, but all showed good spirit throughout the six heats. Scorers for the Falcons were:-
Stevie Anderson 5 Craig Nethercott 4 Chris Watts 1 Jordan Bull 1

The IOW Warriors beat Kent Kings 47 - 43 at Smallbrook in the NL tonight. No Tyler Govier. Alex Spooner guested for him and scored 4. A respectable 9 points for Connor Coles.
In the National Trophy, Devils won 46 - 44 away at Swindon Sprockets, and progress to the Final. Richard Andrews scored 4 + 2. It was R/R for Henry Atkins, who is missing a couple of meetings due to his father/mechanic being abroad.
