The Devils just missed out on an away point tonight, going down 41 - 48 to Cradley Heathens.
Misfortune dogged them, by way of machine failures for Roynon, Boxall and Compton, which cost them dearly.
Richard Andrews managed 5, including one heat win but also two falls. Henry Atkins took a heavy tumble in one heat but saw out the meeting, scoring 4 + 2.

A much improved 9 + 1 score for Matt Bates tonight as his Eastbourne team win 54 - 35 at home to Buxton. This included two heat wins, a paid win and a third place. Keep it up Matt !

It was to prove an eventful evening at the SBA on Thursday evening, and it ended honours even between Devils & Belle Vue Colts, 45-45.
The Rider of the Night award went, most properly, to reserve Richard Andrews, who produced by far his best meeting this season. He took a total of six rides, and in five of them was unbeaten by an opponent. Two heat wins and three second places behind his teammate. In his other outing, he was following teammate Benji Compton to a 5-1 over Kyle Bickley when he sadly slipped off on the top bends, thus losing the chance of a paid 18 maximum return.
That heat ( heat 12 ) turned into a 4-2 to Colts in the rerun, and ultimately cost Devils a win.
Nevertheless, a gutsy performance and Devils are due great credit all round.
A special mention for 16-year-old William O'Keefe, who despite his inexperience was quick-witted enough to promptly lay his bike down and avoid the fallen Jack Smith in heat 11.
In the Cobra's Garage Mahal-sponsored Pairs meeting at Isle of Wight, Matt Bates scored 12 but his partner could not add enough to get them into the semi-finals. This meeting was sponsored by former American Gladiator star 'Cobra' alias Exeter's own Steve Luxton.

My sincere apologies to Henry Atkins for omitting him from the notes about Devils home drawn meeting with Belle Vue Colts last Thursday. He battled well for a 6 + 1 contribution, including a race win, and a spectacular 'off' on the top bend after his bike suddenly lifted sharply and spat him into the airfence. Happily, he was quickly up and about. Sorry again Henry !

Tyler Govier returned to competitive racing at Number 7 for Cradley Heathens in the NL tonight, after a long break.
He scored just 1 + 1 as Heathens won 54 - 35 in the NL against Stoke Potters.
Hopefully, his scores will improve as regular racing sharpens him up again.

Yes, I know he is not based in Exeter any more, but I like to keep tabs on the progress of Connor Coles, for obvious reasons.
On Wednesday evening he scored 7 for IOW Warriors in a 36 - 54 NL reverse at Birmingham. He started well, with two second places and then a heat win, but retired in his fourth ride and ran a last in his fifth.
On Thursday the Warriors had a 56 - 33 NL success at home to Stoke Potters. Connor scored 15, which may have been a full max but I cannot confirm this just yet. ***
(Stoke's David Wallinger was taken to hospital. I sincerely hope that he is not badly hurt & wish him a speedy recovery.)
*** It was !

No sign of Tyler Govier for the Heathens in their NL loss at Kent Kings tonight.
No idea why as yet.
