Something of a baptism of fire, it would seem, for the young Falcons in their very first Southern Development League outing, away against Kent Kestrels. The Kestrels won by 22 to 8. Scorers for the Falcons were:- Andrew Palmer 3 + 1 Craig Nethercott 3 Stevie Anderson 1 Rob Watts 1 I am trying to find out who rode for Kestrels, to judge their relative strength against the Falcons boys. Also, it seems only five heats were raced. Presumably, the curfew prevented the sixth heat taking place ? Congrats to all involved on getting through the first meeting.

Well, it seems the score I saw on Facebook yesterday evening was wrong.
The Falcons went down 27 - 8, according to the Dev. Leagues fixtures/results page on the SpeedwayGB website, so all six heats were run as well.
The Kent Kestrels team was Bradley Andrews, Jamie Couzins, James Laker & Alex Spooner. I only know about NZ-born Andrews, who has had some experience of NL racing, being with Cradley for a while last season. For the older amongst you, his grandfather is Bob Andrews, a rider of some ability in his day. Both Laker and Spooner are part of the ' Young Lions ' set-up pioneered this season to bring through British riders of the future.
The meeting was a ' double-header ' and Kestrels took on a Weymouth Wizards quartet after our meeting, beating the Wizards 22 - 13.

Due to Sods Law striking again, the double-header meeting at Plymouth on 19 May coincided with me being away on a week's holiday, booked many weeks ago, so I missed the meeting !! I gather that Falcons went down 16 - 20 to Devon Demons in the first six-heat encounter. Falcons scorers were:- Anders Rowe 6 Andrew Palmer 5 + 1 Craig Nethercott 4 Mick French 1 + 1 Better news from the second meeting, where Falcons notched their first win in the SDL with a 19 - 17 success over Weymouth Wizards. Scorers this time were:- Henry Atkins 9 ( max ) Jordan Bull 5 Craig Nethercott 3 Andrew Palmer 2 Well done all the lads !

Please go to the "Exeter-based Riders" thread for latest results from the SDL. No point in posting details twice. Thanks.
