The Falcons took on the Birmingham Bulls over six heats at the Coliseum last night, and went down 14 - 22 to what amounted to a two-man Bulls team.
Bulls arrived with only three riders, Rachel Hellowell's van having apparently broken down en route. This enabled Bulls to track Tom Spencer and Arran Butcher four times each over the six races. Spencer scored a paid maximum ( 10 + 2 ) and Butcher 11.
Adam Sheppard did beat Butcher in Heat 1, but fell awkwardly in his second outing and a closely following Kris Andrews did all he could to lay the bike down, but did catch Adam a glancing blow. Adam could not take his last ride.
Scorers for the Falcons:-
Saul Bulley 4 + 1 ( 3 rides ) James Chattin 4 + 1 ( 4 rides ) Adam Sheppard 3 ( 2 rides ) Kris Andrews 3 ( 3 rides )
The Falcons title hopes are now, sadly, pretty much gone.

The Falcons scheduled home meeting against Weymouth Wildcats tomorrow ( 9/8 ) has been postponed, as has the Gladiators NL meeting versus Mildenhall, due to a very adverse weather forecast.

It was three riders only on each side as the Falcons took on visiting Carmarthen Dragons at the Coliseum on Friday night.
Falcons had intended to track Craig Nethercott who was making a comeback after quite some time, but sadly his people carrier/bike transporter gave up the ghost and he did not make it. Carmarthen's Danny Woodward stepped in as a guest reserve for the Gladiators against Stoke Potters, but was injured during the main meeting and withdrew as a result. We wish him well.
Only five races were held, and the Falcons squeezed home 16 - 13. Joe Alcock scored a full 12 point maximum for Dragons, but the other two riders managed just a single point.
Falcons scorers:-
Kai Ward 8 + 1 ( 4 rides ) Kris Andrews 4 + 2 ( 3 rides ) Adam Sheppard 4 + 1 ( 2 rides )
Falcons lie second in the M&SDL now, with two meetings (both at home) left.

The Falcons home meeting against the Weymouth Wildcats on Friday 13 September was halted after just one heat due to a total power outage which plunged the stadium into darkness.
The Wildcats took heat 1 by 4 - 2 after Andrew Palmer headed home Kris Andrews, with Sam Peters third. Craig Nethercott was a faller but he was unscathed, happily.
No idea as yet if this meeting will be restaged.
It was very fortunate that the power failure happened between heats. Must be the curse of Friday the 13th !!

I am hearing that the Falcons' outstanding home meeting may not now take place, with the likely outcome that both Falcons and Weymouth will receive one point each.
I believe a point would secure runners-up spot for the Falcons in the M&SDL.
Yet to be officially confirmed though.

Sadly, the scheduled second half meeting between the Falcons and Weymouth Wildcats did not happen on Thursday night.
Both sides had only three programmed riders, but although all the Wildcats arrived, only Kris Andrews was there for the Falcons. As a consequence, the meeting could not go ahead, of course.
It will not be run now, and I have no idea whether it will be awarded to the Wildcats or classed as a draw with both sides getting a point.
