Lol Coming Back To Exeter-March 6th,

This is still in the mid days of planning.

I would like to point out that the Malthouse is a Brewers Fayre restaurant and not just a pub.

Lawrence is well up for it after talking to him last week and bearing in mind the situation with Toni Svab seems so right.Money raised will go to the speedway riders benevolent fund.

This is a totally new venture for the restaurant but I have to say the manager has been absolutely brilliant in terms of supporting the local speedway fans as the place was when they raised over £1000 for Lol when he got injured-even though there is only one lad left there that was there at the time.

It sure as hell is going to be a great night although there are a few things still to sort out,which we will this week.

If anyone is interested in reserving a table for a meal or interested in coming along just for a drink and meet lol again could they please email me on nevsy @blueyonder.co.uk so that I can let them know the interest from speedway fans.-and I will get back to you once I have spoken to the manager again this week.

There is also a supporters meet up there on the 30th Jan.

Should have more details after that evening and if anyone has anything to raffle on 6th March or auction it would be greatly appreciated.Havent got an auctioneer yet or even considered it as such(well apart from thinking about getting someone to cheekily contact Rosco on my behalf-dont ask you dont get-YOU UP FOR IT ROSCO?-but we need items to auction first-no point in running before you can walk but no harm in asking.
Spoke to Colesy and he has put it in his diary and should be there-and get this- young Matt Bates presented all the prizes and trophys at the Exeter Cycle Speedway awards night on Saturday to the kids and appeared very much older and did himself proud with the kids (They really looked up to him)and ken has said they both hope to be there on the 30th Jan and 6th March

Should get everything finalised in the next two weeks.Still trying to sort the band and maybe Graham Hamley as master of ceremonies when I can get hold of him-My head hurts now-need bed

Former Exeter rider Lawrence Hare is to make a welcome return to the city as the guest of honour at a charity fundraising night.

Hare, who was paralysed in a crash at Newport in 2002 while riding for the Falcons, will be at the Malthouse pub on Haven Road on Monday, March 6.

The pub is celebrating its 10th birthday by inviting supporters from the city's speedway, football and rugby clubs to a party.

The Malthouse raised £1,000 for Hare when he suffered his crash and they will again help the sport by donating the proceeds from their birthday bash to the Speedway Riders' Benevolent Fund.

Falcons historian Robert Doran will put on a display of items from his museum. He will provide three bikes for the night, including Hare's own machine.

On the night there is expected to be a raffle and donations to the charity, while the pub's owners will also knock 35 per cent off the cost of their meals."

This is all good stuff, Nevs. It should be a great night ! I'll be there, and I know of 3 others who will be also.

Well done to young Matt for presenting the trophies for the cycle speedway riders. Maybe one or two of these kids will ride for the Falcons too one day.

Just a quick update.

The original plan was that anyone dining would get in for free and anyone just coming along for the night would be charged £3-which many people felt was fair.

However after thinking of a family that bring 5 people that would mean £15 before they evenbuy a drink or crisps etc which seems a bit ott.

So what we have decided is that people booking tables to eat will be allowed in free and Kes has agreed to open it up generally so that anyone that wants to turn up can with just a voluntary donation at the door which will go to the Speedway riders benevolent fund with a SUGGESTED donation of £3,however it is up to the individual-so if each member of a family sticks in what they can afford then thats fine-even if its 50p each-although Im sure people will donate more.

We are currently trying to get a cabaret type band at a cheap cost and I think its only fair that some of the admission money on the night goes to cover their costs as with the place offering 35% off meals they are hardly likely to making money out of the evening-So my suggestion is we cover the costs of the band/duo (likely to be about £70) out of the admission money initially and the surplus raised goes to SRBF. Hope that sits ok with everyone.

They are also going to be fund raising during the lead up to it on a daily basis in the restaurant with customers.

Cant say fairer than that I reckon-he really is doing his best for Speedway on this night and is open to any ideas anyone has.

Make sure you are there on the 30th Jan if you have any more ideas that will help make this a memorable night.


EDIT Just spoke to Seemond and he wants to be there and is 99% certain he will be to meet up with his old mate LOl again.
