ALLEN TRUMP GETS BALL ROLLING ON FALCONS' VISION FOR THE FUTURE
The prospect of a new home for Exeterspeedway will move a big step closer this morning when owner Allen Trump hands in a planning application for a proposed new stadium at Haldon Racecourse to Teignbridge District Council planning officials. Exeter Falcons have been homeless and unable to race since the closure of the County Ground to speedway in 2005 and the fiasco of the attempted move to Westpoint but, even before the County Ground's demase, Trump and his associates were quietly working towards a move to Haldon Racecourse and now it appears that their perseverance will possibly well pay off and the falcons may fly again .
A lease of 21 years has been agreed with their landlords, Haldon Racecourse subject to planning permission being graned, and Trump says he is at last beginning to envisage the fruits of a lot of hard labour.
"We have been working on this application for over six months, including visiting several other tracks to obtain information to help us prepare the application, and I am confident that we will get planning permission," explained Trump. "We have spent a great deal of time and effort getting this application right from all points of view and we fulfil all the necessary requirements."
Certainly the portents appear to be good. The proposed new five-acre home of Exeter speedway is based within less than half the size of the site of the old longtrack circuit which was used - without any protests - at Haldon Racecourse from 1977-80, so the venue already has two-wheeled historical usage.
"We have details of the original planning permission - which has never been rescinded, just lapsed - that was given in 1977, which states that speedway is an appropriate sport for the area, on the racecourse,"
Officials of the Falcons have also conducted two recent sets of noise tests which have produced excellent results - well within accepted parameters - and they have consulted fully with English Nature and local planning officials. They also have the backing of Sport England.
Initial plans for the stadium have revealed that there will be a 310 to 320-metre floodlit track with plenty of banking, raised concrete terracing, a grandstand with full hospitality and supporters' facilities' including a club shop and offices' plus a near-1,000 capacity car park on site.
"We obviously have our own ideas on what we want at the stadium, judging by what we have seen working and not working at other tracks - we want a track that produces good racing and a stadium that has all the modern day requirements yet blends in with its surroundings,'' said the Falcons' chief.
"We are convinced there is a demand for the sport of speedway in the Exeter area. We had a crowd of around 3,000 people for the last meeting at the County Ground," said Trump, who believes that, if all goes according to plan, work on the stadium will start immediately and the Falcons will be back racing in the Premier League in 2007, with the first meeting pencilled in for the Monday after Easter."
From what I have heard a decision on the application is expected within two months or so, and if the outcome of the planning application is a successful one for Exeter speedway, work will then start immediately on building a new stadium- and the Exeter Falcons and their fans will once again be flying high.-Keep everything crossed people.
Advice re letters of support will follow. Please just hang fire for now.
I am so happy i could do a jig around the room semi naked on web cam -but will wait until we get permission for that particular episode ;D
As an aside does anyone have any idea what a portent is?
"quote-Certainly the portents appear to be good"
