Ben Barker will be a great loss.
Nick Simmons used to excite the crowd by coming from the back and earning a third place or occasional second place, but he always started slowly.
Ben has proved he can gate and actually WIN races from the reserve berth. Ben - you will be missed - get well soon.
As for a replacement, why not use Matt Bates? Matt Bates is my choice because: 1) His heart is with Exeter 2) He would be cheap 3) Better the devil you know (and all that) 4) He is less likely to get stuck in traffic on his way here.
The downside is that he is recovering from injury and I hear that the Exeter track is tough on the body.

Latest news on Ben as of 5.30pm Friday courtesy of Bryn on the main forum.
"Latest news on Ben as follows:
Spoke to his mum Mandy a little while ago who's been in to see him today after he underwent a second op in the early hours of this morning, this one to plate the break in his lower left leg.
Pleased to report the op went well and Ben's in good spirits considering, probably because the rest of the Oxford Academy side all "sent their love" via Mandy!
The bad news is that he now faces a third operation - scheduled for Sunday - to close up the open wound on his thigh where he had the initial operation in the early hours of Thursday.
The plan is still, hopefully, to get him transferred down to the hospital in Truro sometime next week."
Thanks Bryn

The Aussie lads name is something like Arlo bujega and Lees Dad knows him(think he is staying with them)perhaps he would be one solution as Lee is down each week and could show him the ropes

Arlo was staying with Lee but he was also staying with Shane Parker, not sure if he is still over here or if he has gone home.

Looks like Ben finally went home today according to this post from Shorty on the main forum yesterday.
"Ben's definately on his way back home tomorrow! He's been walking with his crutches and hopping up and down steps! It's a big relief for his Mum and Dad, one last trip to pick him up tomorrow, and that's it! Thanks for all the well wishes, they were all printed off and handed to Ben."
