IVAN MAUGER TO RETURN TO EXETER?
Speedway legend and six times world champion Ivan Mauger could be heading back to Exeter’s County Ground to ride the last ever four laps of Britain’s fastest circuit.
Mauger, who led the Falcons to the 1974 British League championship and also won his fifth world title as an Exeter rider, has offered to ride in the final speedway meeting at the County Ground at the beginning of October. Falcons’ promoter David Short has welcomed the offer;
“It would be wonderful to have Ivan, the greatest rider ever to race for Exeter, at our grand ‘End of an Era’ meeting ”said Short, “But bringing him halfway round the world from his home in Australia is an expensive move, so we are seeking sponsors to help fly him over. We are looking for a number of fans or companies to donate £100 and in return they will be photographed with Ivan, have their names included in the special souvenir programme which he will sign, and be invited to the post meeting VIP reception. We will be announcing the full line-up for the meeting shortly but it promises to be a star studded event and a night to remember.”
