FANS URGED TO HAVE FAITH
From Saturday's Express and Echo taken from ,thisisexeter.co.uk
Would have posted it earlier but been a bit tied up during the weekend trying to put together an ill fitting wardrobe from Argos that refuses to do what it should -- IE standup straight!!!
Exeter Falcons press officer and former team manager Tony Lethbridge has called on the club's fans to be patient and support club owner Allen Trump's bid to establish a state-of-the-art speedway stadium at Haldon Racecourse.Earlier this week Trump announced that he had been forced to move the site of the proposed track to a different part of the racecourse to overcome a problem with reptiles.
This will mean completely new planning application will have to be submitted to Teignbridge District Council, the timescale of which means the Falcons will not return to racing until 2009 at the earliest.
"Everyone is extremely disappointed that there will no speedway next season." said Lethbridge.
"But thanks to Allen Trump we can hopefully look forward to 2009. The fans have been very patient for two years and, although we now face another season without an Exeter team to support, I remain totally convinced that he will have everything sorted and ready to go by Easter 2009. Without Allen's input Exeter Speedway would have died when the County Ground closed in 2005.
"Since then he has worked tirelessly to overcome numerous difficulties and make Haldon a reality.
"Very few fans realise the considerable effort he has put into this project or how much it has cost him. It has produced a mountain of paperwork, while the financial outlay has already exceeded £20,000."
Lethbridge added that Trump was determined to bring as much success to Exeter as he has to his other speedway venture - Oxford's Conference League team.
"Allen is a lifelong Exeter Speedway supporter who has the passion to see the Falcons succeed," he said.
"You only have to look at what he has achieved at Oxford. In just over two months he has saved the Cheetahs from extinction and already the team is pushing for the title.
"I am confident he has the drive and the determination to overcome all obstacles. He deserves the full support of every Falcons fan."
