Nick Simmons has been granted a testimonial having been an Isle of Wight asset for ten years. Nick will be racing for Newport again this season and his meeting will take place at Queensway Meadows on Sunday 16 March. Several top riders have already confirmed that they will be taking part. Chris Harris tops the line-up along with Coventry team mate Rory Schlein, new Aussie champion Chris Holder, Jason Doyle, Davey Watt and former Falcon Paul Fry. Nick is hopeful that Jason Crump will also be riding, and looks forward to meeting up with many of his Exeter friends on the day.

Have put the date on my calendar and will be there, God willing. Have got a great photo of Nick wrestling with that bl***y Reading lion mascot ( ) and grinning from ear to ear. You may remember the moment after we'd beaten Racers to win the Premier Trophy in 2004. Nick pulled the lion's tail and a good-natured bout ensued ! ;D

Let's see the photo Squibby.
If you haven't got a scanner pass it to Nevs and we will get it up on the website.
Cheers.

That was a truly fantastic night and extremely emotional. It was definitely one of the best occasions of my life. The whole team pulled together for Colin as never before and the atmosphere in the dressing room before the start was just so tense compared with the previous evening at Reading where everyone got geed up very noisily. Squibby's photo of Nick wrestling the Reading lion really captures the delight we all felt at winning.

It seems that due to a genuine misunderstanding I pre-empted the official announcement regarding the launch of Nick's testimonial. I unreservedly apologise to Tim Stone for any embarassment that this may have been caused.to Newport Speedway and also to Nevsy and Nigel. Tony Lethbridge

I see Nick wants sponsors.
As we used to collect for him every week at when he was at exeter, how about some of us clubbing together to sponsor a heat.
Not sure how much it is but can find out if enough people are interested.

I'd be up for that, Mary. There are 4 other mates who stood with me on the back straight terracing at the C.G. who used to chip in every week for Nick so I expect they will be willing to contribute to sponsoring a heat at his Testimonial too. Keep us posted.
