"Exeter Aces lost for the first time in five Conference League meetings by four points at Southampton. But the defeat was in somewhat controversial circumstances, as Southampton included Paul Jannaway from the senior team and a crucial referee's decision went against the visitors.
Jannaway's points made the difference in the end, but he suffered a huge shock as Exeter's British under-13 champion Thomas Reed beat him three times.
Controversy struck in heat 12 when the Aces were in first and third but a home rider fell. He should have been excluded as the cause of the stoppage, but the referee restarted the race with all four riders and Southampton went on to claim first and third themselves.
Scores, Southampton 77 Exeter Aces 73: Thomas Reed 20, Arron Herbert 14, Tim Lake 11+3, Amy Herbert 11+1, Joe Avery 9, Sam Dart 7, Charlie Herbert 1
Last week's local league event was a pairs competition run over three groups.
In group C Lauren Hookway and Kaylee Gover held the lead for most of the meeting, but a final heat 6-4 win by Tanisha Heyde and Leah Gover saw them finish one point clear with 22 points.
Group B saw some good racing and again only one point separated the top two pairs. Corey Heyde and Matt Trechman rode well, but could not keep pace with Julian Way and his guest partner, who finished on 22 points, and Sam Dart and Charlie Jane Herbert, who won with 23 points.
Group A was also fiercely contested, with it going all the way to the last heat. A steady ride from Daren Reeks and Thomas Reed gave them 23 points to finish one ahead of Dominic McCrae and Aaron Herbert.
