The Local Cycle Speedway league season drew to end last week with the completion of first the Club best pairs on Thursday night followed by the Age group Individual championship on Sunday.
The track was in good condition and some excellent racing was the result.
The pairs were run over three groups and in group ‘C’ Kieran Lewis and Leah Gover took an early lead with a 6-4 heat win in their first race and went on to score 21 points but were pushed into second place following two 6-4 heat wins from Will Tidball and Kaylee Gover in their final two rides to give them a slender one point victory on 22 points with third place pair Oliver Lewis and Ryan Coles not far behind on 21 points.
In group ‘B’ Charlie Jane Herbert and Liam Borrowdale stamped their claim on a trophy from the first race with a good 7-3 heat win followed by a 6-4 and then a steady last two races to finish on 22 points leaving Corey Heyde and Tanisha Heyde to draw for second place with Mitch Abbott and Lauren Hookway on 20 points each.
In the ‘A’ group Craig Nethercott and Tim Lake opened with a 6-4 heat win over Thomas Reed and Jamie Borrowdale but were soon passed by Joe Avery and Aaron Coles who scored a 7-3 heat win in their first race over Aaron Herbert and Sam Dart but another two 6-4 heat wins and a drawn heat gave Nethercott and Lake 23 points and looked set to win the meeting but Reed and Borrowdale had other ideas and took two 7-3 heat wins in their last two outings and forced a draw on 23 points with Coles and Avery in third on 21.
In the Individual events the under 8’s were up first and first year rider Will Tidball rode well to finish on 14 points but had to settle for second place following four prefect rides from the Experienced Jack Herbert Who finished on an unbeaten 16 point maximum, Oliver Lewis was third on 11 points.
In the under 10’s it was another unbeaten 16 points that took the win this time for Lauren Hookway followed by Tanisha Heyde on 13 points and Scott Borrowdale on 11.
The next group was the under 12’s and a final heat clash between Joe Avery and Aaron Coles decided the meeting with only one point between them Aaron Coles made the gate from an outside grid to round Joe Avery and finished on a well deserved 16 point maximum with Joe Avery second on 14 point and Corey Heyde in third on 10.
Thomas Reed rounded off a good season by winning the under 14’s with an effortless 16 point maximum from Sam Dart who put up a good fight to finish on 10 points for second place.
Another spirited effort was put in by Aaron Herbert to finish on 11 points in the under 16’s but had to settle for second place to Craig Nethercott who finished on 14 points with Tim Lake and Jamie Borrowdale in third on 8 points each.
The final group was the under 18’s were Dominic McCrae rounded of a good season to win with 14 points.
