Well 'vintagebikes' - I don't believe I have. My point is that if a sport is 'in the blood', and it clearly is with all who contribute to this forum, it seems sad that such people are 'apparently' becoming dispirited. My only thoughts were that is a pity and my post was intended to revive any who were 'flagging' because of the time it is taking for Exeter to get back and running again. I have been a supporter for fifty years now and I simply wanted to revive the spirits of those who clearly have the same love of the sport as I.

I dont think people are dispirited as such-just some not as enthusiastic about speedway in general at this moment in time with Exeter not running. There is a saying "Blood is thicker than water" I guess Exeter and The Falcons are the blood and Speedway is the water to some. Both essential -but without the blood the water just isnt quite the same. Hopefully the blood and water will combine again sometime soon and all will be well in the world once more.

Nevs, did you know that when the blood and water separate the patient is in fact dead?
Just thought you ought to know.

Hi Nevs, I think you are right it is not so much that people are dispirited it is the enthusiasm. Personally I think part of my diminished enthusiasm is that I am holding my breath, metaphorically speaking of course. Having overcome lots of issues and Haldon becoming a reality, even announcing when our first meeting was planned our hopes were dashed. No problem we will overcome the issues and it will be 2009 now when we race again. I almost don't wan't to look forward to that as it may not happen, so if I dont think it will, then I won't be dissapointed and dissapointed is putting it lightly. Gorden posted that when he spoke to Allen recently Allen confirmed that he was still commited and that Exeter was still his club and is still commited to Exeter racing again. I believe what Allen says (would like to emphasise that point) and why shoudn't I Allen has been open and honest at all times, I have never seen him give an evasive answer to any question. The lack of information that is forthcoming regarding the resubmited planning application may just be due to Allens commitments with Coventry and I do understand what Allen said in relation to his capabilities in running several businesses at the same time but I do have a bad feeling about the lack of news. I hope my fears are unfounded and we hear soon that Haldon 2009 is not a possibility but is fact. If blood is thicker than water, then in Exeter terms I am very much a Johhny come lately compared to many, but if somebody like Tony who to me is Exeter speedway feels the way he does then maybe Devil Darren and Slipslider may have a better understanding of the reasons we feel the way we do.

I think the blood is thicker than water thing has been slightly misunderstood here. I meant that for me personally, without Exeter running,at this moment in time speedway in general, watching it,reading about it,posting on forums about it just isnt the same and doesnt mean as much because our beloved Falcons are not flying at this moment in time--Thats all!!! Exeter Speedway is the blood and speedway in general is the water-and until the day the Falcons fly again speedway in general just doesnt have the same appeal whilst we are not involved in it all. Instead of watching liveupdates in the evening I now watch Gordan Ramseys kitchen nightmares on channel 4 on line--How sad is that!!! Hey the Falcons will fly again no doubt-otherwise I wouldnt have this stupid daft signature below with a bleeding great Keep The Falcons Flying logo that me lad designed and insisted I use. If anyone else wants one he can stick your name on it too and add it to every post you make Keep the faith guys keep the faith---Hopefully we will hear good news soon.

Yes please Nevs I would like a signature but would appreciate it if Craig could make mine with a 2005 racejacket.Sorry to be picky!
Of course we must not lose faith. I think it is quite understandable that after three years with no racing we are losing interest in speedway in general. It is not because I don't love speedway any more but we are not involved and that hurts. Nothing will ever replace the Falcons for me, which is why I don't go anywhere else. Don't forget some of us have been here before. I remember as a child being taken to Poole in 1956 and Plymouth in 1959 as holiday treats because Exeter was closed at the time. I never ever thought it would happen again, and in fact on Easter Monday 2006 suddenly realised that I had been at the County Ground every Easter since 1961. Speedway was just so much a part of our lives. Now I have other interests but I shall be back there next Easter if everything goes to plan. Don't forget that I am one of eight people who promised Colin that we would fulfil his wish that the speedway continued. We managed despite opposite from some quarters to get the extra season in 2005, and, like stevieb, am confident that Allen is the man who will overcome the obstacles and make Haldon a reality. I had thought it was just me that had lost interest but clearly many others have too, and good on you that haven't and are supporting the other tracks. Hopefully we have reached our lowest ebb and at the meeting on the 27th we shall hear the news we have all be waiting for. I can only echo Nevs and say KEEP THE FAITH a little longer. Please also spare a thought at this sad time for the folks at Newport and hope that they will be able to keep their track going as a tribute to Tim.

Have read the original thread, and all the comments on this Forum - all very pertinent and heartfelt - not a lot more I could add to it.
I long ago found myself taping live speedway on TV so I can fast forward all the talking bits and just watch the racing. This especially applies to the GPs. I just do not like the basic concept, much preferring the old format with a one-off final. I know that would not attract TV backing and will never happen again, so will just have to lump it.
Somehow, without our own team being in action every week during the season, I don't feel part of the whole speedway thing. Speedway on TV has become a tad stale for me. I like Nigel Pearson's commentary, and Floppy's wisecracks, but the remainder just induces one long yawn for me except for when the tapes rise for each race.
I sincerely hope that Mr. Trump does manage to fulfil his ambition to revive The Falcons because if he doesn't, I too am liable to become one more of the undoubted thousands who ' used to go' to watch live speedway. It would be the same for me if Exeter City FC were to fold - I have hardly missed a home game since moving to Exeter in 1964, but going to watch any other team on a regular basis would just not be the same. It's a passion thing, I suppose.
