Premier League 2009 - Round Up
Having returned from my winter break and begun to recover from jet-lag, snow-lag, excess food-lag and various other lags I find that all teams with the exception of Stoke have completed their septets for the new season. Perhaps the Potters intend to go with just six riders only. There have been no reports yet of any season affecting injuries sustained by riders riding abroad and no-one seem to have changed their minds about returning to Britain for the new season (although a quick look at the weather in Britain over the last few weeks might cause them to change their minds).
It seems that there will now be the lull before the storm when speedway bursts into life in the middle of March. Fans of the various Premier League teams will have assessed their team’s chances and many postings can be found on how everyone thinks they’ll do this coming season. Everyone is, of course, hoping their team will be tenth in the table compounded by the Speedway Star in their revue of 2009.
Since I left these shores to don a grass skirt and lei (you’ll maybe need to look that one up!) it seems that
Birmingham have signed Marek Mroz on a 3.50 average for one of the reserve berths with the other being shared between Ben Taylor and Jack Roberts.
King’s Lynn may have to find a replacement for John Oliver who looks likely to miss at least the start of the season next month for the Stars for personal reasons.
Newport have somehow managed to get Chris Kerr’s average re-assessed to 6.47 which allows him to slot into the Wasps side.
Rye House have confirmed that Andrew Silver will indeed ride at number 7 on a 5.00 point average. (I wonder if Len Silver will don his old white leather boots again next season in another age-defying come back?!)
Scun-thorpe seem to have problems with their long-term future due to their proposed neighbours. The Scorpions are urging support from all quarters to prevent the local council from approving a plan to allow a ‘travellers’ site’ to be built next to the Eddie Wright raceway.
Somerset completed their side with the signings of young Australian Justin Sedgmen on a 5.00 point assessed average and Tom Brown on a 3.00 point average. Jay Herne and Brendan Johnson share the other reserve slot.
Stoke We all wait with baited breath.
It seems that that nearly concludes matters. Let battle commence in a month’s time.
