Very sorry to read the news that former Falcon's and Halifax rider Rob Ashton, who rode for The Falcons in 1983, after replacing John Barker, has finally lost his battle against cancer after a long and courageous fight and sadly passed away on Monday. RIP Rob

Very sad news. Yet another succumbs to that dreaded disease.
I do a small speedway quiz each Sunday night for a few mates down the pub, and Rob Ashton was the answer to one of the questions just last Sunday. He was runner-up in the ' Newcomer of the Year ' section in the then annual Speedway Writers and Photographers Association Awards in 1981.
Will always be remembered as a member of the 1983 NL KO Cup side that pipped Weymouth by a point on aggregate.
RIP
