It is with deep sadness that I copy the post that Dave T has written on the Somerset Rebels website.
Kate (Kayjay) was a welcome guest poster on this forum, and a lovely lady who shared a great banter with Exeter fans on the Somerset forum and made myself and Craig feel very welcome on our last visit to The Oak Tree Arena, when we finally met her and her husband John (Poohbear).
Thoughts and condolences go out to her family and friends, especially her husband John. The speedway forums have lost a fine lady and a wonderful character in her passing.
RIP Kate.xx
John and Craig.
Dave T's post.....
This posting is probably the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I don’t want to do it, but I’m going to do it anyway, because I have promised a friend that I would.Last night I received a PM from John Gulliver (Poohbear), and I have spoken to him today on the phone. He told me that his lovely wife, and our wonderful friend, Kate (Kayjay), was taken from us on Monday evening at 7:20pm. John has asked me to let you all know what has happened.
On Sunday John & Kate had enjoyed a day with the family, and they were on their way out for a walk on the beach & a pint, when Kate was taken seriously ill, very suddenly. She was taken to Weston General Hospital, but did not recover, and died on Monday with her family round her.
Anyone who crossed Kate’s path will know what a wonderful person she was, and was liked by everyone who met her. Since she took over Johns account on the forum she has made many friends who will miss her greatly.
Whilst not in the first flush of youth (I can feel the brolly as I type), she was young at heart, and had a wicked sense of humour, which Swedey, and the rest of us, who got on the receiving end of her quick-witted comments, will testify to. She loved her speedway, and was a devout follower of the Rebels. If it wasn’t for the fact that Kate & John had the papers to sort out, I am sure that they would have become a fully paid up members of Statto’s Tours travel club.
She was also a very kind hearted person, and would not think twice about helping other people out. Not many people know that it was Kate who replaced the Easter Eggs that were stolen from the kids at the track this year, although she didn’t broadcast it, that’s the kind of person she was.
She ran a little caption competition on the forum a while back, and our webbymeister, Capt Mainwaring won it. He was sitting in the stand shortly afterwards, when he was handed a bottle of wine from a lady he didn’t know. ‘What’s this?’ he said. ‘It’s for you Mike’, ‘It’s your prize’. ‘Prize?’, enquired the Capt. ‘Yes, your prize’, said the lady, now with a beaming smile across her face. ‘You won it in my caption competition, I’m Kate, Kayjay’. It suddenly dawned on the Capt what was going on, and Kate had made another friend. That was Kate all over.
In the past couple of seasons Kate has touched many of our lives, and brought nothing but good into them. She was kind, wise, funny, and a thoroughly nice person, who will be sadly missed both here, at the OTA, and I am sure in many more places. I for one have not just lost an acquaintance, but a friend of the very best type. I will miss her badly.
John said that he will return to the OTA at some time in the future, but for the foreseeable future will not be posting on here. All at the ‘T’ household would like to send our deepest sympathy, and condolences to John and also to Kate’s family.
Kate’s Funeral will be on Wednesday 8th August, at 1:00pm at the Weston-super-Mare Crematorium.
Rest in Peace Kate.
