While I don't like mixing politics and speedway, whenever canvassers of whatever party knock on the door I enjoying asking what their party are doing to help the Falcons secure their home. Normally it is total waffle. Yesterday the prospective Conservative parliamentary candidate for Exeter Hannah Foster appeared on our doorstep. To my amazement she had actually heard of the Falcons. In fact she has even attended a meeting as her husband likes speedway. What was even more interesting was that she claims that the loss of the Falcons has been major concern from people that she has spoken to. This may just be politician speak but if you live in Exeter and Ms Foster turns up on your doorstep make sure you mention the Falcons and the need to secure the track at Haldon. Sure she wants our votes and may not have that much sway at Teignbridge, but the more support the planning application gets the better. You can also ask for her support by mailing hannah4exeter@mac.com
Personally I don't care which party it is as long as they help us get our speedway back.
While on the subject of politics has anyone else noted that the Chiefs have been granted planning permission to extend Sandy Park to 14,000 capacity? However the condition is that they must set up a green transport system rather than build a bigger car park. What is the green transport plan. Apparently rugby fans will now drive to Westpoint, park their cars there, then travel back to the ground by bus! That will really delight the residents of Clyst St Mary who claimed that our crowds of 1,200 would make their lives a misery. I am waiting with interest to see the first letter of complaint appear in the press. Rather surprisingly nothing has yet been seen.
