We recently attended the meeting at Gillman, Adelaide, which started in 30+ temperatures - cold beer went down well. As the night wore on it got very chilly and out came the coats (well, those that had sense enough to take them). Unbelievably, in front of us appeared a Falcons jacket. Knowing that he was not one of our travelling party, Mr Claas decided to investigate, so armed with my Exeter board he went and introduced himself. Turns out the man was called David, used to live off Cowick St & emigrated to Australia about 20yrs ago! He is now about 42 with a young family of his own and came back for a visit about 4yrs ago which is when he went to see the Falcons in action once more and purchased the jacket. He keeps in touch with what is happening in the speedway world via recordings of the Sky meetings courtesy of his dad, and was very keen to learn of the latest developments for the Falcons (aren't we all!). Met up with him again at Mount Gambier and it was very nice to relive old memories from the County Ground with someone who remembers speedway from a time when it was speedway as it should be.
To prove what an even smaller world it is, as we were about to board the plane at Kuala Lumpur airport, a very nice young man came and spoke to me and asked if I still worked at the Co-op in Cullompton. Turns out, before he went on his travels, he used to live in the flat above the shop!!
