PLYMOUTH 395
54 Mike B.

50 Hazel
54 Ashley
48 Graham
46 Roger
45 Mel
44 Elliott
Exeter led with the skills of Allen Trump and had a score of 8 on the board in no time. Plymouth led with Mike Bowden and had to make do with a 5.
What followed next can only be described as skittles. Elliott started badly for Plymouth with a three ball blob but he improved steadily and scored 0-7-1 for a fine finish. Mel was a first ball wonder with his 6-0-0 and 4-0-0 to begin. Roger was steady throughout while Graham proved he can score with either his last ball or his first.
Hazel showed good form scoring with most of her balls, whilst Dave and Ashley were clearly under instruction not to outscore Mike Bowden under pain of death. Dave showed what he can do when he scored a thirteen at the bottom of the eighth innings.
For Exeter Andy L. managed to squeeze three balls between the pins in the fifth leg of the competition, a feat that you would find hard to do if you tried. Robert D. took to knocking over the pin at the back before going for the others. Hans W. got a consistent 6 or 7 before finishing with a fine 4-2-2 eight.
John B. saved his best for last with a 1-8-5 for fourteen at the top of the eighth. Phil B. started better with an 8-1-5 for fourteen in the second leg. Keith W. waited until the eighth before knocking all nine over, and that just leaves the two leading lights.
Allen Trump scored a 5-4-4 for thirteen in the third leg leading the troops valiantly into the fray, but bowler of the night award has to go to Sam W. with 68 including a 7-2-5 for fourteen in the seventh followed by a 6-2-1 in the eighth.
The contest takes place over two legs so whilst Exeter are in a good position Plymouth have the home leg to come.
