For those on Holiday in the South West next weekend,or fancy coming to view it, this is a chance to view Rob Dorans' private speedway museum collection.
Following message from Tony Lethbridge explains it all-and Rob has a truely magnificent collection.
JOIN FORCES WITH THE EXE MODEL RAILWAY SOCIETY TO MARK FALCONS 60th ANNIVERSARY
What do speedway and model railways have in common? At first glance not much but actually plenty of speedway folk are also keen railway modellers including at least a couple of riders. That is why Exeter Speedway supporters are joining forces with the Exe Model Railway Society to mark the sixtieth anniversary of the Falcons.
The EMRS are about to stage their largest ever exhibition at the Exeter Livestock Centre over the weekend of 2/3 June and have invited Falcons supporter Rob Doran to display his internationally famous speedway memorabilia collection. Rob’s collection tells the story of Exeter Speedway at the County Ground from the earliest days until the final meeting in October 2005. His display will include some twenty bikes, virtually every Exeter race jacket since 1947, leathers, programmes, photographs, plus both the well known old Ferguson T20 tractor, now fully restored, and the late Colin Hill’s equally familiar Bedford van. The Doran collection will be supported by an array of machines owned by Falcons’ Supporters Club chairman Gordon Ward and a display of model bikes and riders created by Ward’s predecessor, Pat Gorman. Visitors will also be able to test their reactions on a ‘Beat the Starter’ simulator and browse through old programmes and collectables in the sales area which will include a range of Ivan Mauger merchandise. The exhibition will be sponsored by Falcons' owner Allen Trump
The Matford Livestock Centre is located on the Marsh Barton trading estate next to the Park and Ride which will provide ample free parking. Visitors coming from the A30 /M5 should follow signs for Marsh Barton, then Livestock Centre/ Matford Park and Ride. The Centre has full disabled access and its own restaurant. Cost of admission, which covers both the speedway display and model railway exhibition ( featuring 26 scale layouts), is adults £4, Children and Senior Citizens £2.50. A family tickets ( 2+2) costs £10. The show runs from 11am to 5.30pm (Saturday) and 10.30am to 5.00pm (Sunday). "
