This is a brief report from the fans meet up last night.
There will be more to follow including pictures taken by Allen after he flew to America to attend the ceremony for Scott Autrey last week when he was named as the final Team USA Speedway Honoree for ‘07.
Loads of pictures for that but is going to take a few days to scan and upload etc--but will be well worth the wait.
Back to last night--excuse any poor spelling, grammar etc and my sad sense of humour-but here is the gist of things.
Over 100 fans converged at the Malthouse last night for a reunion -many old faces there not seen for a while.
A combination of an update on the situation at the moment Falcons wise, the supporters club AGM,and of course Mark Lemon and Chris Harris in attendance, not to mention the Beat The Starter competition brought all the old faces and regulars out once again for a reunion-just like the old times.
The annual Exeter Speedway supporters club Annual General meeting kicked events off with all the legal stuff that has to happen once a year and applies to supporters clubs in terms of minutes from last AGM,finances, new members prepared to stand on committee and such like.
It was pointed out that the supporters club really does need members-and at a mere cost of £3 adults and £1 children per season-hardly breaks the bank does it and shows you are supporting the Falcons.
Lets give the supporters club our support for the future of Exeter Speedway for when we reopen Exeter Speedway as the supporters club do supply money to riders etc and not directly to the club in all cases.
Next on was a presentation to Mark Lemon and a member of the Coventry Veterans riders association who both won last races at Exeter before we closed--The gentleman from Coventry who left Coventry at 10AM Monday to be there, who's name I couldn't quite hear won the last veterans race to be held at Exeter in Exeter Colours and wished all the very best to Exeter for the future-Lemmo seemed a bit miffed that the other guy got a maximum in his particular last meeting whereas he (Lemmo) didnt ;D.
Tough at the top Mark
Mark receiving a large painted model of a speedway rider in his own Exeter colours (well he almost did-His wasnt quite ready for tonight-so he got one of Corey Blackmans instead for presentation purposes -but Mark's will be ready in the next few days or so)
The other gentleman received the No 1 race jacket he wore on the night and a framed collage.
Then was onto the main Events
Latest update from Allen Trump.
Allen summarised for those that had not attended a meeting before how the Nature England request in July last year for a summer survey had interrupted the process for planning for this year.
That has already been well documented elsewhere.
Situation now is this.
Teignbridge district council and councillors and Haldon race course are fully behind us.
The 1981 Countryside and (something)-couldnt hear- act means that everything has to be done correctly and legally to ensure widlife are protected.
This is the stuff you need to know now.
On Friday there is a meeting with Teignbridge district council--and it is intended that the plans will be discussed to double the length of the proposed Grandstand -ie -the whole length of the home straight-this will mean a capacity of 500 people in the grandstand.
It will also mean that there will be 8 executive boxes included, and either another function room/bar or doubling the length of the current proposed one.
In Allen's own words as far as he knows and as he said he may be wrong-We are planning to build a stadium for the 21st century-One like this has not been built specifically for speedway since world war 2.
The Reptile survey is complete-and when people ask how its going with the speedway planning they look at him rather strangely when he starts mentioning snakes and lizards and Newts etc --However later this month the reptile fence that has been purchased will start to be put in place around the gorse area.
Then from March until Mayish it will involve 28 seperate visits to the site to gently move the little beauties and their off spring as they hatch andwake up for the summer and put them in an area within the reptile fence where they are safe from harm---amazing isnt it what has to go into a new track.--There are wildlife experts helping with this.
So no problem that way.
In terms of The summer survey that will last until late July birds could be nesting until that time.
So a revised planning application is likely to be submitted at that time provided the report back is favourable-which hopefully it will be.
In addition The Speedway development will involve taking away 2 acres of gorse-in return 5.5 acres on another area of the racecourse will be made-so basically more given back for the wildlife to thrive as it develops which is great for English nature.
With regards to the takeover by the Jockey Club of the racecourse this will not affect the speedways plans.
The new people that own the course are as committed as the last and the management at Haldon.
The speedway is seen as vital income to the racecourse-so nothing changes.
Plans carry on now for full steam ahead for 2008 as before.
Day off tomorrow-but tired out now--Will post the rest of the nights events with bomber, his Mentor and Lemmos hopefully sometime Tuesday and also how a junior speedway supporter beat them at the beat the starter competition once Winkey gets the times up ;D.
Hope I got most of that right
Just wait till the Autrey snaps are uploaded as well.
