I have just received the first issue of 'Classic Speedway' which has been launched to replace Vintage Speedway Magazine. Whereas VSM dealt mainly with pre war speedway CS is aimed at younger readers interested in the '50s, '60, and '70s. and issue one contains articles of special interest to Exeter fans on Ivan Mauger, Bruce Cribb and Neil Steet. Full details can be found at www.retro-speedway.comGood value at £2.

Hats off to the Retro Team, if the first issue is a Benchmark of what's to come then there is much to look forward to. Shifting the emphasis more to the 50's and 60's makes good sense, although I am still not sure that edging into the 70's and into "Backtrack" territory is such a good move. Having said that, the layout, content and picture qaulity in this opening issue is second to none, exceptional value. The Falcons certainly get a fair amount of coverage in this opener, the only "hiccup" being the omission of Phil Woodcock's name in the '68 Team photograph, but a first class read by any standard.
