Quite a bit happening on Friday night. Henry Atkins rode in the second semi-final of the British U21 Championship held at Somerset. He reeled off four straight wins to get first pick of gate for the Grand final, and was leading the way in that race when his machine let him down. A burnt out clutch, it seems. Sadly, only the first three went through to the overall Final meeting. Very bad luck for young Henry. In the National Trophy, Plymouth Gladiators won narrowly by 46 - 44 against the Kent Kings. Nathan Stoneman scored a full 15 point maximum. Richard Andrews managed 6+1 but fell and was excluded in his fourth ride. Adam Sheppard and Jamie Bursill, who ride at 6 and 7 for Plymouth and who will be riding for the Falcons in the M&SDL, scored 3+1 and 2 respectively. Plymouth 3 points, Kent 1. Connor Coles scored just 5 for Stoke Potters as they were thumped 63 - 27 at Belle vue Colts in a NL encounter. ( as a footnote to the above, I gather that Richard Andrews was hurt as a result of his fall. More news when I know it )

Sadly, it transpires that Richard Andrews has fractured a bone or bones in a foot as a result of his back straight 'off' and as yet there is no estimate as to when he will be fit to ride again. Not good news.

Henry Atkins scored an excellent 7 points as Somerset Rebels beat Eastbourne Eagles 52 - 38 in the Championship Shield tonight. Also, my apologies for an error in an earlier post. Jamie Bursill is NOT riding for Exeter Falcons - I mixed him up with James Chattin. Sorry James !

The Plymouth Gladiators ran out excellent winners in the National Trophy tonight, beating Isle of Wight Warriors 48 - 42 on the Island.
Nathan Stoneman top-scored with 15 points, and Adam Sheppard scored 2 + 1.
Richard Andrews is still sidelined with his foot injury, so Gladiators used R/R for him.

Not such good news about the Gladiators tonight.
They went down heavily away at Mildenhall, losing 29 - 61 in the National Trophy.
Nathan Stoneman top-scored with 10 + 1 from five rides. More details when available.
( Adam Sheppard scored just 1 from five outings at reserve. Richard Andrews was still unavailable due to injury, but hopes to be back very soon now. )

News today that Plymouth Gladiators heat leader Nathan Stoneman has signed to ride for Birmingham Brummies in the Championship, so will be riding in both that league and the NL.
Good luck Nathan !

No joy for Henry Atkins or the Somerset Rebels tonight.
The Rebels went down 36 - 53 away at Redcar Bears, with Henry managing 2 + 1.
This was a Championship KO Cup meeting, with the second leg to come at the OTA.
( Apologies for initial info being wrong about Henry's tally. Official Rebels site confirms score as above. )
